They weren’t supposed to win because of their goaltending. But they did. EDMONTON takes out VEGAS in 5 games and only gives up 10 goals (and one was a heartbreaker).

The playoffs is always a war of attrition. In real life and in the pool. We lost 5 players from Round One mostly due to travel complications. But we picked up a player for the LATECOMER POOL.

WINNIPEG – 7 GAMES – 48 GOALS – 1 OT = 500 PTS

OK wow. Again. DALLAS the night before and then this? Can’t remember a game 7 with a tying goal that late. The inside of that rink must have been incredible. Down their two best players and down to the last two seconds of game 7 is one for the ages.

WINNIPEG was picked by 45/48 players but nobody called all four legs of this series. With arguably the two top goalies playing against each other only 4/48 players called FORTIES. And one of them was trying to lose.

DALLAS – 7 GAMES – 45 GOALS – 2 OT = 600 PTS

WOW!

What a series. What a game 7. What a performance by Rantanen. This makes you think back to when #1 seed played #8 and #2 played #7. These two teams should have met later in the playoffs.

COLORADO was the favorite in our pool with 36/48 players calling them to win. Most players called 6 or 7 games and higher scoring. Only 4/48 players called DALLAS and all four legs of this series for 600 of a possible 600 points. A huge tip of the Choirboys helmet to:

What a series! EDMONTON wakes up after dropping the first two games to take it in six. Finally changed goalies. Who would have thought that could work? Oh yeah – everyone. Now it’s on to Round Two against VEGAS.

Only 18/48 players called EDMONTON for this one. And out of that there was a single top scorer with 400 out of a possible 500 points.

VEGAS takes this one in 6, but MINNESOTA made them work for it. They will play the winner of the EDM/LAK  series.

VEGAS were heavy favorites with 46/48 players calling them to win. There were only three players to call all four legs of this series. Scoring 500 of a possible 500 points, a big tip of the Choirboys helmet to:

Despite years of practice and dedication the Leafs were unable to choke. And now they move on to challenge the defending Cup champs. Buy your parade tickets now while prices are low.

With three games going to OT there were a few extra points available. 36/48 players called for the Leafs to do it, but nobody was able to call all four legs. A big tip of the Choirboys helmet to the top scorer with 500 of a possible 600 points (calling TORONTO/7/THIRTIES/3)

FLORIDA – 5 GAMES – 31 GOALS – 0 OT = 400 PTS

FLORIDA beats up TAMPA BAY to close it out in 5 games. If they end up playing WASHINGTON that would be a heavyweight tilt.

Nobody came close to calling all four legs of this one. With 34/48 players calling TAMPA to win – this was an upset in the pool. There were 11 top scorers with 200 of a possible 400 points:

WASHINGTON- 5 GAMES – 30 GOALS – 1 OT = 400 PTS

Last time WASHINGTON met MONTREAL in the playoffs was 2010. The Caps were the #1 seed and lost in 7 games to the Habs who were the #8 seed. It was no upset this time. The Caps are a bigger team and it showed – especially Tom Wilson’s play.

As a mob 40/48 players called WASHINGTON to win. Only 1 player called all four legs of this series. Interestingly there were 10 players who called WASHINGTON/5 GAMES/TWENTIES/1 OT. Turns out that 30th goal (empty net) made a difference in the standings!

CAROLINA takes out NEW JERSEY in 5 games. The Devils were missing their top three players and didn’t have the depth to really contend.

As a mob 36/48 players called CAROLINA to win. But nobody was able to call all four legs of this series.
