playoff pool format

The Dave Orton Playoff Pool is our annual test to see who has the sharpest hockey mind. Dave was the #91 on our jerseys, lost too early at the age of 42.

Most bracket pools have you pick the series winner and that’s it. Our Choirboys pool format provides standings that can and do change as each of the series is being played.

  • There is no entry fee.
  • The pool is open to Active Roster players, pay-as-you-play players and Alumni players.
  • Prizes are funded from ice time dues, bar surpluses and pay-as-you-play players.

First incorporated in the mid 1990’s when I got tired of traditional hockey draft pools where for too long the winner was whoever got to pick first and then got to draft either Gretzky or Lemieux. In this pool your picks are not affected by someone else’s luck at picking first.

No, you won’t have that as an excuse….

  • There are “cash & swag” prizes for first and last place – and “middle-of-the-pack” – in each pool.
  • Go ahead, try and finish last – it’s harder than it looks.
  • For 2023 -2024 roster players, high score in Overall Pool plays for free in 2024-2025
  • Come on in to the pool – the water’s fine…..

FOUR WAYS TO SCORE POINTS:

  • Pick the winners of each series.
  • Pick how many games it will take to win each series (4, 5, 6 or 7).
  • Pick total goals teams will score in each series (Teens, 20’s, 30’s, 40’s)
  • Pick total overtime games in each series (0 to 7)

YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR PICKS BEFORE EACH ROUND STARTS!

YOUR PICKS ARE ENTERED IN TWO SEPARATE POOLS THAT RUN CONCURRENTLY:

  • OVERALL counts your picks in all four rounds

  • LATECOMER tracks your picks in ONLY the last three rounds.

TOTAL GOALS stats keep the standings changing – as each game is being played. If you choose TEENS you immediately earn 200 points until the 20th goal is scored. Then you lose your 200 points and anyone who picked TWENTIES gets 100 points, etc.

Likewise for OVERTIME GAMES. If you pick zero games you immediately earn 100 points until the first game goes to overtime. Then you lose your 100 points and anyone who picked one game gets 100 points…two games gets 200 points…up to the longest shot – that all seven games go to overtime for 700 points.

TAKE A CHANCE – YOU COULD PLAY FOR FREE IN 2024-2025
